Quick Answer: El Nido to Coron
Fast ferries cross from El Nido to Coron in 3.5–4 hours, departing 1–2 times daily (weather dependent). This is Palawan's most scenic inter-island crossing, but the open ocean is unpredictable—cancellations spike June to October. Book the earliest ferry and pack Dramamine.
The El Nido to Coron Crossing: Palawan’s Gateway Ferry
I always tell travelers: this is Palawan’s most famous inter-island crossing, and it’s beautiful, but it demands flexibility. El Nido to Coron is the link between two of the Philippines’ most photogenic destinations—limestone cliffs, turquoise lagoons, world-class diving. The route takes you across open Bacuit Bay into the Sibuyan Sea, a scenic journey with one caveat: weather rules this crossing.
Unlike the calm Cebu–Bohol strait or the reliable OceanJet monopoly, El Nido–Coron sits in a rougher zone. Three solid operators run it: Montenegro Lines (most amenities), Jomalia Shipping (modern fastcraft, early departures), and Atienza Interisland Ferries (budget-friendly). Vessels vary, and monsoon season (June–October) stacks cancellations like cards. If you have a tight schedule—say, an international flight out of Manila in two days—this is not the route to gamble on. But if you can build in buffer days and tolerate occasional roughness, it’s unforgettable.
Ferry Schedule: 2–3 Daily Departures (Weather-Dependent)
Schedules on this route fluctuate more than most. Typically, you’ll see morning fast ferries from Montenegro Lines (12:00 noon departure to Coron), Jomalia Shipping (12:30 PM), and Atienza Interisland Ferries (morning, schedule varies). Multiple daily options give you flexibility. Bad weather can still wipe out all sailings for days.
| Operator | Departure Time | Fare (PHP) | Duration | Amenities |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Montenegro Lines | 12:00 noon | 1,760 | 3.5 hours | WiFi, power outlets, canteen; most popular |
| Jomalia Shipping | 12:30 PM | 2,850 | 3.5 hours | Modern fastcraft; some cancellation reports online |
| Atienza Interisland Ferries | Morning (varies) | 2,000–2,200 | 4–5 hours | Budget-friendly; 25kg baggage limit; steel-hulled fastcraft |
Weather is Final Say
Schedules posted online can change within hours. If you're booking 1–2 days in advance, confirm departure time 24 hours before. Afternoon and evening cancellations are common in monsoon season (June–October) as sea conditions deteriorate. This is not a route where you "just show up"—plan ahead and have backup dates.

Package Pricing: Ferry + Hotel Transfer
We bundle fast ferry tickets with private car transfers from Coron Port to your hotel. Pricing is per person, flat rate—no surcharge for groups. This covers everything: ferry boarding, vehicle pickup at Coron wharf, and drop-off at your destination in Coron town or nearby resorts.
| Package | Per Person (PHP) | Per Person (USD) | What’s Included |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tourist Class + Transfer | from PHP 3,500 | from $63 | Economy ferry seat + private car transfer from Coron Port to your hotel |
| Business Class + Transfer | from PHP 4,500 | from $80 | Priority boarding, wider/reclined seat + private car transfer from Coron Port to your hotel |

Terminal fees (PHP 50–75 per port) are added by operators and are separate from ticket price.
Ann's Price Tip
Business Class on this route is worth it on rough sea days. You get a more stable seat, priority boarding (meaning earlier vehicle pickup in Coron), and a seat facing forward rather than sideways. If you're prone to seasickness or traveling during Nov–May when seas can be choppy, the extra PHP 1,000 buys real comfort. On smooth days, Tourist Class is fine.
El Nido Port: Getting There & Check-In
El Nido Port is basic. No air conditioning, no shops, minimal seating. But once you know the routine, it’s straightforward. The wharf sits right on the waterfront in El Nido town, easily walkable from central hotels.
Getting to El Nido Port
If you’re staying in El Nido town (most visitors are), the port is a short trip. Tricycles cost PHP 50–100 from hotels; taxis (if you can find one) run PHP 100–150. The journey is 5–10 minutes. Grab is unreliable in El Nido—your best bet is to ask your hotel to arrange a tricycle or use our hotel-to-port transfer included in some packages. If you’re staying outside town (remote resorts, Bacuit Island), arrange port transport the night before. Allow 30–45 minutes from outlying areas.
At El Nido Port
Arrive 45 minutes early. Check in at the operator counter (usually a simple booth on the pier). Bring your passport and booking confirmation. Baggage is weighed; oversized items may incur fees (rare). The port has a small outdoor waiting area and a basic canteen selling water, snacks, and instant noodles. Bathrooms are available but basic. Sit in the shade if possible—the pier gets very hot. Your ferry will board 15–20 minutes before departure; listen for announcements.
Ann's El Nido Port Tip
Don't trust the 6 AM posted ferry to arrive exactly at 6 AM. It might board at 6:15 or 6:45. Operators often wait for stragglers or weather confirmation. Be there by 5:45 AM and bring a book or charge your phone. The port has no WiFi. Peak season (Dec–Feb) gets crowded; if you're traveling then, arrive even earlier to secure a good seat onboard.
Arriving at Coron Port: Onward Options
Coron Port (also called Coron Wharf) is smaller and more chaotic than El Nido’s. There’s no official taxi stand—drivers approach you on the pier. This is where our transfer package shines: your car is already arranged, and you skip the negotiation.
Getting to Your Destination from Coron
Coron Town Hotels
5–10 minutes
Easiest onward leg. Hotels within walking distance of the wharf. If you book our package, your transfer is included. Alternatively, negotiate a tricycle (PHP 80–150) with drivers at the pier.
Island Resorts (Banana Island, Kala Resort)
15–30 minutes by boat
Resorts often have boats waiting at the wharf for arriving ferries. Confirm transfer time when booking. Some packages include speedboat transfers; check your confirmation.
Busuanga (North Coron) / Puerto Princesa Highway
45 minutes–1.5 hours
Private van required. Expect PHP 1,200–1,800 for up to 5 passengers. Book through your resort or our transfer service. Public minivans exist but are unreliable for arriving ferry passengers.
Ann's Coron Arrival Tip
Coron Port can be overwhelming—boat captains shouting offers, luggage handlers hovering, weather-worn pier. If you don't speak Tagalog or have a reservation, negotiate firmly with transport vendors. Our transfer package removes this chaos entirely. Your driver waits with a name sign, loads your bags, and takes you directly to your hotel. Worth the peace of mind.

Return Journey: Coron to El Nido
The reverse route is operationally identical—same operators, same duration, same frequency and weather caveats. Coron Port (departure) is slightly easier to navigate than El Nido Port, with better signage and more organized operator booths. Schedules favor afternoon departures from Coron (e.g., 1–2 PM), arriving in El Nido by evening. Check with your resort’s front desk for the current schedule; it varies by season. Book return ferries in advance during peak season (Dec–Feb), as they fill quickly.
Onward from Coron: Island Hopping & Diving
Coron is a diving and island-hopping hub. Most visitors spend 2–4 days exploring Palawan’s northern region before moving on. Common onward routes include Palawan island tours (Kayangan Lake, Barracuda Lake, Malcapuya Island—all day trips by local boats), mainland Palawan to Puerto Princesa (for El Nido connections or flights), or return to Manila via Busuanga Airport.
Explore the Palawan Island Loop
Coron is the northern gateway to Palawan. From here, most travelers extend trips southward to Port Barton or Puerto Princesa, or loop back to El Nido for final beach days. Multi-leg Palawan itineraries are becoming popular—link El Nido + Coron + island hopping in one coordinated trip.
