The Bohol–Siquijor Route: What You Need to Know

This is the route that turns a Bohol beach holiday into a proper Visayas island-hopping adventure. Siquijor is only 1 hour and 40 minutes south of Bohol by fast ferry, and it’s a completely different world — smaller, quieter, wilder. I send travelers there almost every week, and the ones who go always wish they’d given themselves more days.

The crossing is straightforward but demands planning because OceanJet only runs two sailings per day. Miss your departure and there is no backup — no other operator, no evening ferry, no slow boat alternative. You’re staying another night in Bohol. This is the single most important thing to understand about this route: it runs on a razor-thin schedule.

Ferry Schedule: Bohol to Siquijor 2026

OceanJet is the only operator on the Tagbilaran–Siquijor route. They run high-speed catamarans with two fixed departures per day.

DepartureArrival (approx.)DurationBest For
Morning (~9:00–10:00 AM)~11:00 AM1 hr 40 minDay travelers from Cebu connecting through Bohol; early check-in at Siquijor hotel
Afternoon (~2:00–3:00 PM)~4:00–4:40 PM1 hr 40 minTravelers spending the morning in Bohol; sunset arrival in Siquijor

Schedule Note

Exact departure times shift slightly by season. OceanJet publishes final times closer to your travel date. During typhoon season (June–November), cancellations are common — sometimes for 2–3 consecutive days. During peak season (December–May), both sailings often sell out. Book early, especially for the morning departure.

Ann’s Price Tip

Business class is worth the upgrade on this route. With only two sailings per day, economy fills up fast during peak season. Business gives you priority boarding, a wider seat, and less crowding — for roughly $10 more per person. When the port is chaotic at 8:30 AM with everyone trying to get on the same boat, that priority matters.

Tagbilaran Port, Bohol: Departure Guide

Tagbilaran Port is the main port in Bohol and the departure point for the Siquijor ferry. It’s the same port used for the Cebu–Bohol OceanJet route, so if you arrived in Bohol by ferry, you already know the layout.

Getting to Tagbilaran Port

From Panglao / Alona Beach: 20–30 minutes by car. Tricycle costs PHP 300–500 but isn’t comfortable with luggage. A private car transfer is PHP 800–1,200 and far more practical, especially for early morning departures.

From Loboc or Chocolate Hills area: 45 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on location. You’ll need a private car. Arrange pickup at least 2 hours before ferry departure to account for traffic and the winding roads through central Bohol.

At the Port

Arrive at least 45 minutes before departure. The process: enter the terminal, pass through bag scanning, present your ticket or booking reference at the OceanJet counter, then proceed to the waiting area. Boarding begins about 15–20 minutes before departure.

The port has a small convenience store, seating area, and restrooms. It’s basic but clean. On busy mornings, the waiting area fills up quickly — arriving early means a better seat on the ferry.

Arriving at Siquijor Port

The OceanJet docks at Siquijor Port in Siquijor town, the island’s small capital. Disembarkation is quick — you walk off the ferry, collect any checked bags, and exit through a basic arrivals area. Outside, you’ll find tricycles waiting and (if you’ve booked through us) your private transfer driver holding a sign with your name.

Getting to Your Destination from Siquijor Port

To San Juan (beach area)

25–35 minutes by car

The most popular area for tourists. White-sand beaches, cliff jumping at Salagdoong, and the best restaurant scene on the island. Tricycle PHP 300–500 or private transfer.

To Lazi & Cambugahay Falls

20–30 minutes by car

Heritage town with the oldest convent in Asia. Cambugahay Falls is the island’s most famous waterfall — turquoise tiers you can swim in. Easy ride from the port.

To Larena (north)

15–20 minutes by car

Quieter side of the island. Some budget accommodations and the alternative port for Dumaguete-bound ferries.

Full island loop

~3 hours by motorbike

Siquijor is small enough to circle in half a day. Most travelers rent a motorbike (PHP 350–500/day) or hire a tricycle for a guided tour (PHP 1,200–1,500 for the day).

Ann’s Transfer Tip

If you’re heading to San Juan, book a transfer in advance rather than haggling at the port. Port tricycle drivers in Siquijor know you have no other option and prices spike during ferry arrivals. A pre-arranged private car is often the same price or cheaper when split between two travelers, and far more comfortable with luggage on Siquijor’s hilly roads.

Siquijor to Bohol: The Return Journey

The return route is identical — same OceanJet ferries, same ports, same 1 hour 40 minute crossing, same 2 daily departures. Most travelers spend 2–4 days in Siquijor before heading back to Bohol.

The critical thing to remember: if you need to connect onward from Bohol to Cebu the same day, take the morning Siquijor–Bohol ferry. The afternoon departure arrives in Tagbilaran around 4–5 PM, and late OceanJet departures to Cebu are limited. Morning gives you a comfortable buffer.

Connecting to Other Islands from Bohol

Most travelers doing this route are on the classic Cebu → Bohol → Siquijor loop — the most popular multi-island itinerary in the Visayas. From Siquijor, you can also continue south to Dumaguete (1 hour by local ferry from Larena or Siquijor port) and from there onward to Apo Island for diving.

The reverse loop — Siquijor → Bohol → Cebu — is equally common for travelers heading back to catch flights from Mactan-Cebu airport.

Book the Full Visayas Island Loop

Cebu → Bohol → Siquijor and back. Every ferry leg and transfer coordinated in a single booking. Most travelers do the loop in 5–10 days.
