It’s not fixed — drivers will quote you PHP 500–700 depending on how tired you look. Step 3: Wait for other passengers. Vans don’t leave on a schedule; they wait until they’re full. You might wait 30 minutes or 2 hours. Step 4: Endure the 5-hour drive. No bathroom breaks on the schedule. Drivers play loud Filipino music. You can’t control the air-conditioning. Step 5: Know where to get off. Caticlan has multiple drop-off points. If the driver drops you at the wrong one, you’ll be walking around with luggage. Step 6: Walk to the jetty port. It’s not adjacent to the van terminal. It’s a 5–10 minute walk uphill with your bags. Step 7: Pay environmental fee. PHP 75 in cash only. No card. Step 8: Pay terminal fee. PHP 100 cash. Step 9: Buy your ferry ticket. You’ll queue with 50 other backpackers. Step 10: Board the ferry. Assigned seating is a suggestion. Overbooked ferries happen. Step 11: Arrive in Boracay. Step 12: Negotiate with trike drivers. They see your confusion and will quote you PHP 500 for a PHP 150 ride. You’ll end up paying PHP 300–400.

That’s 12 steps. That’s 7+ separate cash transactions. That’s hours of logistics stress after already spending 5 hours in a cramped van.

The Iloilo Route: Why Budget Airlines Do This

Caticlan Airport is gorgeous but tiny. It can’t handle daily budget airline traffic. Cebu Pacific, AirAsia, and other carriers fly to Iloilo instead because it’s the closest major hub with frequent service. That makes Iloilo the defacto gateway to Boracay for price-conscious travelers. It also makes the Iloilo-Caticlan leg something you absolutely cannot DIY without stress.

You’re heading to the island everyone talks about. Boracay’s main draw is White Beach — a 4-kilometer stretch of pale sand on the western coast. It’s packed with beach bars, water sports vendors, and island nightlife. If you want restaurants, the main coastal road has everything from beachfront fine dining to street food. If you want to escape the crowds, the northeast coast is quieter, and snorkeling to nearby Crocodile Island is a half-day trip.

If you want to return to Iloilo or continue to Cebu, we offer the reverse route (Boracay to Caticlan to Iloilo) or you can book a direct ferry from Caticlan to Cebu City.
